Director of Development

Save lives, promote health equity, advance breakthrough research

Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta saves lives by meeting the most critical needs in the Metro Atlanta area by addressing health disparities that limit access to care, and by investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.  The organization is seeking an experienced Director of Development to plan, design, implement, and steward fundraising activities to advance its mission and impact.  The position is responsible for diversifying and expanding current fundraising strategies, with an emphasis on annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, sponsorships, events, grant acquisition and national programs in coordination with Komen headquarters to support Komen’s Bold Goal of reducing breast cancer mortality by 50% by 2026.

This is a regular, full-time, exempt position that reports to the CEO, interfaces frequently with the board and other stakeholders, and is a key member of the Komen Atlanta team.

Key responsibilities of the position include planning and prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, stewardship, data and gift administration and coordination of donors at all levels.  The ideal candidate will combine deep skills and experience in fundraising with a steadfast commitment to the Komen Atlanta mission, and the ability to professionally, authentically and effectively engage with the community in order to raise $3+ million annually.

Internship Opportunities

Komen Atlanta has several internships that offer on-the-job training as well as the opportunity to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer within the metro Atlanta community. We welcome current students and recent graduates to apply for one of our internship opportunities below.

We are currently accepting letters of application for Summer and Fall 2019. We accept full-time and part-time interns. Although all of our internships are unpaid, we do work with universities to offer course credit.

Internship Rotations:
– Spring: January – May (Applications due November 1)
– Summer: May – August (Applications due April 1)
– Fall: August – December (Applications due August 1)

Development Intern

  • Responsible for supporting fundraising staff in all aspects of revenue generation from fundraising event to cultivating individual and major donors
  • Assisting with design, copy writing and production of donor materials and ongoing correspondence
  • Conducting prospect research and analysis to support solicitation strategies
  • Assisting with the organization and tracking of donor and sponsor information
  • Daily maintenance of database records and donor profiles
  • Builds relationships with outside vendors; potential for in-kind solicitation

Mission Intern

  • Assist in the community grants program that may include activities such as reporting, surveying, and data entry
  • Assist in developing and implementing activities that address the gaps in uninsured/underinsured populations in service area through education and outreach efforts, as proposed in the Community Profile and set forth through a strategic plan
  • Work collaboratively with Mission staff and volunteers to participate in appropriate community-sponsored educational programs, and appropriate Affiliate education initiatives within the Affiliate service area
  • Update list of current Speakers Bureau members and identify potential members and assist with recruitment
  • Seek out speaking/event opportunities for Speakers Bureau members
  • Assist with connecting community to free breast health resources such as mammograms
  • May assist with special projects involving the LGBTQ+, recent immigrant, African-American, and Latina communities, public policy advocacy, survivorship conferences, and coalition building

Social Media/Marketing Intern

  • Responsible for assisting with the development and execution of Komen Atlanta internal and external communications, marketing and collateral materials and advertising/publicity campaigns
  • Collaborate with staff to create a comprehensive communications calendar for emails and all social media platforms and meet all deadlines
  • Responsible for creating a social media strategy surrounding upcoming signature events, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and other mission-related messaging
  • Utilize Adobe Design Suite to create invitations, web graphics, magazine advertisements, event brochures, educational and fundraising collateral, signage and more
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and email marketing tools preferred
